Project Spotlight: Marlatt Farm House
Marlatt Spotlight Summary
When we say “Custom Kitchen,” this is what we mean. We completely moved the kitchen to a new side of the house and removed, not one, but two load bearing walls. That type of work may seem intimidating, but we love to partner with our friends at KJG Engineering to determine the correct size beams to properly support the load above. Once we removed all the old lathe and plaster and added our new six foot kitchen window, we completely updated the electrical in this old living room to make way for the new kitchen. Beautiful new laminate flooring went in throughout the updated space. The cabinet plan was very well thought out in the kitchen. Several custom drawers and inserts make this kitchen extremely functional. I loved the subtle use of two tones in the cabinetry to add some interest. The wall cabinets with textured glass detail really create an elegant look and feel. Beautiful granite countertops and undercabinet lighting highlight the space.
Kitchen Remodeling FAQs
Everything starts with a conversation. First we want to hear your vision and determine what type of remodel is being considered.
Simple countertop updates can happen in just a few days. A pull and replace kitchen may take a few weeks, while custom kitchens can take 3 weeks to 3 months. Move structural, mechanical, or electrical components can add to the overall timeline of a project. Luckily, with Horizon, we take a great deal of pride in our jobsite cleanliness to help alleviate some of the stress involved with a remodel.
Basic countertop and backsplash updates can be as low as $10,000, while custom kitchen projects can get into 6 digit costs depending on the level of customization. Cabinet costs play a huge factor in kitchen budgets. We can tailor a project to fit your budget and still achieve beautiful results.
When you work with Horizon, we will walk with you step by step through the design process. We work with a team of great designers that will help you think through all the different choices. It is helpful for you to think about what you will use in the kitchen. That way we can make sure we include the features in the cabinetry to fit your needs. If you use a stand mixer a lot for baking; we have the perfect pull-out for that.
We install high quality cabinets with all plywood construction sides and hardwood face frames. Lower end cabinets might offer particle board as a cost saving measure, but we don’t think it is worth the savings. Soft-close, dovetail drawers are standard. Countertops are typically quartz or granite.
If you are planning on a custom kitchen; this is easily the hardest part of the remodel process. We work as efficiently as possible to get you your kitchen back in a timely manner, but it is a renovation. At Horizon, we are happy to provide a temporary sink and countertops as soon as construction allows. Quite honestly, a microwave or outdoor grill will be very useful during this time.
